Movie Monday: Uncut Gems

So this movie... is actually amazing. I know Adam Sandler was upset that he wasn't nominated for an Oscar and honestly... I think he deserved one. I don't know if he was as good as Joaquin Phoenix in Joker... but I think he deserves to be on the same level as him. This was just a really good movie... I have to say the ending wasn't necessarily my favorite... but I feel like that's how it had to end.

And this compared to Joker is kind of a fair comparison I feel. Both movies are more character studies than Plot Driven. This movie kind of has a lot of details going on and it's shown with very long takes- somewhat like Birdman so it feels like this could be a play too. The directors- Benny and Josh Safdie did an amazing job telling this story. It's about a jeweler who is in a lot of debt and a Basketball player from the Celtics comes into the store and looks to purchase an uncut opal that is very valuable... and pretty much everything Howard does leads to him getting into more debt and it leads to his downfall at the end.

So this movie felt very real- that was something my boyfriend and I kept saying when we watched it together. The Safdie brothers actually knew all of the worlds they were dealing with really well. Their father was a salesman for a jeweler named Howard and that was the inspiration for the story I guess. They're also big basketball fans- so that was something they knew about and were passionate about so that was really cool too.

Overall... I'm not sure exactly what to say about this movie but it was suspenseful... it wasn't all that funny but there were moments where I think I laughed... and it was cast perfectly. I would definitely recommend checking it out- it's available on Netflix and I think it was on sale when I went to Target also... so overall just a really great movie!

Hope you guys like this review! Next week I want to do a music Monday on the new Lady Gaga album!

Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
