10) Forever My Girl (1st week on the chart. 4.7 million dollars )
I saw a commercial for this trailer this week... I said "wow this movie looks terrible... but everyone in it is attractive so I guess that's the point. I don't like Nicholas Sparks books or movies all that much. They can be a little misogynestic and unrealistic to me... everyone else seems to love them... but I just don't like it. That being said though... this is soooo low on the charts it's surprising to me. I don't think Nicholas Sparks movies have ever been an outright flop before... but this just isn't good. I don't think the movie had a strong plot... and like I said from the previews- it didn't seem to look good at all... but again- there were attractive people in it. They'll be famous in a few years.
9) Insidious: The Last Key (3rd week on the charts. 5.9 million this week, 58.7 total gross)
I'm surprised that this isn't doing that well in it's second and third week... there isn't that much out right now and Horror Movies did pretty well in 2017... I guess those were kind of fresher takes on the genre and at this time... Insidious is just sort of tired... I feel like they've tried to reinvent it too many times at this point... and I've never been all that interested in watching it myself. So... maybe it's good- but I don't really see it being on the charts for that long and I believe this is the final Insidious movie... so this seems like the way to end it... with people just getting tired of it and moving on to a different horror franchise.
8) Star Wars: The Last Jedi (6th week on the charts. 6.6 million dollars this week- 604.3million total!)
According to my Grandmother... this isn't doing well in China and they pulled it from theaters... I'm not sure if that's true or not... either way- this is hardly a flop... despite some critical disappointment from fans... which I understand. This video from The Film Theorists was pretty awesome! It explains the flaws in the movie... without criticizing the movie too much! It was a good movie... but I can see the flaws and shortcomings of the movie. It obviously isn't doing badly at all... even if it did flop in China.
7) The Commuter (2nd week on the charts. 6.7 million dollars this week... 25.7 million dollars total.)
This movie sounded pretty good. It did better last week on the charts... I thought this would be something that would go up in the charts... but it doesn't seem to be doing that much better... so yeah. I don't think I'll see it in theaters... but it doesn't sound bad!
6) Paddington 2- (2nd week on the charts! 8.2 million dollars this week. 25 million dollars total.)
This movie just beat out Ladybird as the number 1 top rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes... I don't think that's necessarily a high honor or anything... but it means something and it was kind of surprising that Paddington 2 is so critically acclaimed... but I guess it makes enough sense. Paddington 1 was pretty universally liked. It seems like a genuinely cute family friendly movie with a good message that everyone can enjoy.
5) The Greatest Showman (5 weeks on the charts.11 million dollars this week. 113 million dollars total.)
I'm a little surprised this isn't doing better... but I think it's gotten good reviews and 113 million dollars isn't too shabby I guess. I thought maybe there would be a bit more of a boost after the Golden Globes... I don't think there was much of one... but it didn't end up winning best Musical so that makes sense too. I think this looks like a good musical... I like that it's an original musical too- I don't think this has ever been on Broadway before- which always makes for something a little unique and fun. I like that the Hollywood musical is kind of trendy right now. Lol.
4) The Post (5 weeks on the charts. 12.2 million dollars this week. 45.2 million dollars total)
This has been doing pretty well lately! 5 weeks on the charts- still in the top 5... it was number 2 last week- I think there was a bit of a boost because of the Golden Globes... but this is a good story- very relevant and it has a good cast! Looks good... but I don't know. It's not something I really want to see right now... too serious lol. I would rather see something kind of fun and funny!
3) Den of Thieves ( 1st week on the charts! 15.3 million dollars total)
This movie sounds like an action movie... and I'm a little surprised it isn't doing that well... but not that surprised about it because I hadn't heard of it before and frankly I'm not that interested in it. I have no idea why movies are so bad in January and the winter time... it seems like the perfect time to go see a movie... but nope. Gotta save the good stuff till summer I guess... this probably isn't horrible... but it doesn't sound great... so that's a little sucky. It's a crime movie... ugh. Not sure about this one.
2) 12 Strong- (1st week on the charts. 16.5 million dollars total)
This has Chris Hemsworth in it... so that's good. But other than that... it doesn't sound like my type of movie... I'm sure it's a good one though. It's about the War... my grandfather probably would have liked this one... so maybe I'll watch it on TV in his honor.
1) Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle (5th week on the charts. 20 million this week. 317 million total.)
If it's got the Rock in it- it can't be too bad right? This looks kind of bad though... I'll watch it on TV... but I'm not all that interested in it despite the fact that I love the original Jumanji and this has gotten pretty good reviews from real people and from critics... it just seems like a good movie... I'm just still skeptical about it... would rather see it at home.
Alright... so that is everything! I hope you guys like this!
