I saw Amy Schumer's Trainwreck and here are my thoughts about it.
Ohhh and I don't know if I remembered to include the fact that she's drunk in the beginning of the voice over... I thought that little detail was so good!

I feel like this story hasn't quite been done before. Its such a simple concept too, woman doesn't have her life together, her job is kind of crappy, her dad is mean, her sister is married and doesn't always have time and patience for her, and her love life is kind of crazy. She drinks a lot but doesn't quite have a drinking problem and then she falls in love with a guy and she doesn't really want to change for him... and ultimately I don't want to spoil the movie but she does have an arc, she's not really the same Amy at the end of the movie as she is at the start... he's probably a part of why that happens but not the reason. And that is cool.
I also like that it didn't show the woman as having her life together and the guy as not having his life together. There are so many movies where guys do completely unforgivable things and the women and then they just apologize and the women are like "okay!" And they end up together... and its not exactly realistic. In this I thought Amy Towsend was a pretty realistic character the way that she messes up and then tries to get the guy back. She's not a very good person and she has some major flaws, but you can see a lot of the flaws are things she's going through in that particular time of her life and its all stuff she can work on and get through. Her job for example is at a magazine that is for womanizing men mostly... not a lot of articles about anything real or substantial and her article on Bill Hader's character is her trying to change that. And thats just one example, really a lot happens and I thought that it portrayed a woman at a dark time in her life in the right way. They weren't glamorizing it, they weren't demonizing it, it just happened and it felt very real.
Its also has some sad serious parts. Amy Schumer is like one of the funniest people in the world if not the funniest, but there were some moments in this that almost made me cry. And I thought her performance and the actor that played her dad were amazing in it. There aren't many stand up comedian's that are also great actors or actresses, but I thought she did a really fantastic job. And the actor that played her father... I know I've seen him in things before and I know he's probably really famous and its the internet so if I don't get this right I'm a horrible person... but I don't know and I don't feel like looking him up... was perfect. He was so funny but also he made you feel uncomfortable and you kinda felt bad for him but he was also such a real person that you know there are people like this and its funny and they sort of make it funnier. I thought that was pretty cool. Also can we talk about Lebron James? He was awesome in this movie! Someone recently said sports guys are the best people to have host SNL because they just take your notes and the script like its a sports play or something and they just run down the field with it and score. That's what this is. Lebron is totally funny and a great actor. I think this should be a For Your Consideration for the Academy Awards for Lebron as best supporting actor. His basketball scene with Bill Hader might be one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. 3 others from this movie: The Dogwalker movie with Daniel Radcliffe (Remember I wrote about that picture of him with all the dogs he was walking and a cigarette in his mouth recently... thats from this movie!!!), The Monogamy is not realistic scene at the beginning was great and the end scene was really really great.
Also I think this is a movie to kind of think of as a parody. These are normal things that everyone goes through... but kind of to the extreme. So it might not be the most relatable... but there is a version of this that is relatable. Its kind of an extreme version of an ordinary life of a single girl falling for a new man that just happens to be best friends with Lebron James. It makes the most sense to me looking at that angle. And some of these events I could definitely see happening to someone, maybe even to Amy herself, but a little less funny version of these things. I know everyone has at least one story similar to any of the things that happen in this movie. Maybe not just with the dating scenes but with everything.
I also appreciated that she included at least one thing from her stand up in the movie. She talks about her friends all saying something that you would never want anyone to know and all the women say very bland things and then amy says something sexual and inappropriate and its just really funny and everyone is shocked. That happens in this movie too. There are also a lot of female comedians in this movie, I saw Nikki Glazer in one scene and I know the woman in the movie theater that was with the guy yelling at Amy's Boyfriend is a really great comedian too. They are both in Women Who Kill on Netflix with Amy. Really fun to see people you recognize that maybe other people don't.
So overall I liked this movie. Its a movie I'd definitely watch again and again... but I'm not sure if this is something like Bridesmaids where I'll watch it like every week lol. And now I am a Bridesmaid so I'll probably watch that even more. Its better than like Ted where I watch it once and I'm like "That was Okay, now I don't need to watch this again." Type of thing... you know? Ted wasn't terrible, but its not my cup of tea really and not something I've even wanted to watch a second time... so that's kind of what I compare it to.
Hope you guys check out this movie! Definitely worth seeing! Loved it! Had a great time!
