Pop Culture Phenomenons: Musicals (Present Day)

So this is another sort of different post for me and it's something I'd kind of like to delve into a little more... but I'm going to take one particular pop culture phenomenon- whether it's having it's moment now or if it already had its moment... I feel like a bunch of things become popular at the same time that are kind of connected in some way or another... whether they're loosely related or closely related... I just wanted to kind of mention it... I'll do as much research as I can on the subjects and I'll kind of explain a little more about them. Hamilton (in Production since 2013)  So while the first official performance of the Broadway Musical Hamilton which we all know and love today... but before that there was a workshop and an off broadway run... some of these songs are a little different... there are versions in the Hamilton Mixtape of the original songs... the production you can see today is absolutely perfect the way it is... but I do lo

Scribbles About Movies: Split

I finally got around to watching the movie Split by M. Night Shyamalan. I've been wanting to watch this for a while... but right now I've been really into suspenseful movies... in fact- I might just end up watching a lot of horror movies or something and reviewing them here... so let me know if you want some more reviews like this. And I'm going to kind of roast this movie a little for the complaints I have about it... but then I'm going to talk about what I liked about it because it was a genuinely good movie and I liked it a lot.  It starts out slowly and weirdly... maybe it's just because Social Media wasn't that big of a thing when I was in high school and I never really cared about being invited to parties with people I didn't actually like... but it starts out with the 2 "Popular girls" Claire and Marcia saying that they didn't want to invite the "outsider" Casey to their party... and it just seemed weird. She invited th

Throwback Thursday:Recasting 90's Shows- Friends!

Okay... so I know that this will probably never happen in real life... nor do I want it to happen ever... but I just saw Evan Rachel Wood had a picture of her at Central Perk... and it just got me thinking. So I'm looking for actors and actresses in their 20s/30s that I think could work well together! Joey- Jimmy Tatro  Okay... this one was pretty tough to cast. Originally I had Michael B Jordan in this role... I really like Michael B Jordan and I wanted him in this and I thought the only role he would work for would be Joey... but I think Tatro played a really funny character in American Vandal and in 22 Jump Street... and he would be perfect for Joey. He's really funny. Chandler- Diego Boneta  Okay... this one was difficult to cast. Originally I thought of Nick Robinson from Love Simon... but he's a little too young for the role. Then I though Michael Cera would be a good Chandler and Diego Boneta could be a good Ross... and then I kind of decided okay... maybe

Jane The Virgin's "Shocking" Season Finale- Thoughts, Theories and Spoilers!

Okay- so if you haven't seen the Season Finale of Jane The Virgin, I would suggest you click away because I'm going to spoil the end for you in a little bit. Before I get into the ending... I'm just going to talk about each individual story... just to kind of set you up. So the one we got kind of an ending on was River Fields (played by Brook Shields... get it?) staying with Rogelio and Xo to "get to know him" better so that they can play a better husband and wife. She's super annoying to live with and Xo tries telling Rogelio to calm down and be nice to her... but she kind of reaches her limit when River doesn't understand why Rogelio cares so much about Alba's Citizenship party... and Xo says it's because Rogelio will do anything for his family... and then everything ends up okay there. Okay so Alba's Citizenship Party is what everyone is obsessing over in the episode. Alba just passed her Citizenship test and Jane wants to throw her a

Weird Stories That Really Happened: Facebook Stories

Okay... so this story is slightly embarrassing but I think it's all coincidence... but it happened last year around when Facebook Stories were just becoming a thing... and it was sort of the perfect storm of ex-boyfriends internet stalking weirdness. And honestly... I don't think it's bad to keep tabs on your exes online. I like knowing what people that I used to be close with are up to now... I'm still facebook friends with a lot of people I knew from High School and from grade school and whatnot. In New Jersey everyone kind of knows everyone somehow (there was a joke about that on the show Great News... and it's pretty darn accurate.) I think there are definitely boundaries as with any friendship or relationship and I'm just saying if I'm facebook friends with someone- I expect them to see the things that I post. It isn't anything private- it's able to be publicly accessed by the people on my friends list... so I'm okay with that. If I ever s

Movies "Coming Soon" Summer 2018!

So if you guys don't know the website  IMDB ... they are the database for movies. If you have any sort of movie or tv show question- this is the place to check it out. If you look under the "Movies, TV, and Showtimes" section it will show you what movies are coming out within the next year... these dates are subject to change... but I'm going to kind of talk about the ones that are most exciting! May  On May 4th the remake of Overboard with Ana Faris comes out. I don't know too much about this... but I love Ana Faris and I want to see the original Overboard... so this is interesting to me. Also on May 4th we have Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman's newest film Tully. This is about a nighttime nanny that helps a new mother with some post partum depression... it looks really good and powerful and I love Diablo Cody. On the 11th we have Life of The Party with Melissa McCarthy. This looks so funny. Melissa McCarthy plays a mom going through divorce who ends up

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror Recap- White Christmas

Okay... so after attempting and failing to re-watch The Waldo Movement- I did successfully re-watch White Christmas... and that's a kind of hard one to watch... BUT it is an amazing episode and it's just a great Black Mirror episode as a whole. I would compare this episode to Black Museum. Both episodes have the same format where they have 3 different stories in one episode... and I would say the two of these episodes combined really highlight the moral grey areas of the show. White Bear is another one... and White and black make grey... so that's my theory on that. The episodes with White and Black in the titles highlight the moral grey areas of the show. This episode also features technology that we've seen on other episodes of black mirror. There's a chip or something similar to The Grain in "The Entire History Of You" but in this version you can block people- which prevents you from seeing or hearing them and them from seeing or hearing you. It als

If The Disney Princes Were On A Magical Bumble

So I thought this would be sort of fun to do... I'm going to keep it super PG though because... well frankly anything more than PG would disturb me on this one. I was watching a video where... well I was watching  this video  which combines "You're Welcome" and "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" and I thought "Shang doesn't get enough credit.Does he end up with Mulan? I would date him!" And then I thought "Ehhh idk if I would. His whole thing is manliness and he's pretty tough on the other guys in this scene... Idk." So... yeah. Basically in this version of Bumble you see the profile pictures... but then instead of a description or a bio- it's based off of one of their songs from the movie. Shang (Mulan)  Shang is a very good singer and anything where they talk about "The Dark Side of The Moon" just kind of fascinates me... because that is mysterious. I'm a little concerned with how he treats the men in the

Scribbles About TV:Shannon Watches Westworld (Pilot)

Okay... so I thought I would do a few more of these similar to my Black Mirror Recaps... right now I just watched the Westworld Pilot... and I'm intrigued. It isn't unlike Black Mirror... idk if I'll bingewatch all the episodes right away- I think I'll just watch a little at a time and I'll write about it when I do. I feel like this almost isn't my cup of tea... but I did kind of like it... and I think the way that they told the story of the first episode was pretty good. And a brief sort of synopsis of what the show is about... it looks like a regular Western show and that appears to be where the action takes place... but then you learn it isn't really set in a Western atmosphere... it's a theme park and everyone inside the theme park is a robot and they're having difficulties maintaining the robots- especially with the visitors. And the way that they show the robots is kind of grotesque looking- but also beautiful. They're all incredibly

Throwback Thursday: Serendipity

Okay... Serendipity is a Romantic Comedy that is all about fate and fortunate accidents. It is an old movie that I watch pretty much every time it's on... and I used to always love it... and I still love it... BUT I feel like I've gotten way more cynical about it as I've gotten older... so I'll kind of explain all of my feelings about it here. The movie focuses around Jonathan and Sarah (played by John Cusak and Kate Beckinsale). They meet up one night in New York reaching for the same pair of gloves... and someone else tries to buy the gloves from them and they come up with some sort of excuse that they're buying them for Sarah's Boyfriend, who will become Jonathan's girlfriend "after the surgery" (someone asked who they were for and she said "my boyfriend" at the same time Jonathan said "my girlfriend.") And they really get a kick out of that I guess and they have dinner... but Sarah won't give Jonathan her name or her p

3 Super Easy No Effort DIY's

So I am not really a DIY person...but I did do a few DIY's recently that I think really tie my room together... and I kind of like them... and although they are not complicated they aren't necessarily things that you see on a lot DIY projects... and I wanted to share these cause they're very easy and very me! 1. Apothecary Jar For Spring  So I think I've mentioned that I have an Apothecary Jar and in the winter I filled it with Ornaments and jingle bells and for the spring I decided to put some Fake Flowers in it! So I just got 3 bunches of flowers from Dollar Tree that I thought went well together and it looked like they'd match the color of my room. I have pink, a dark bluish purpley color and then a Lavender- which is the actual color of my room... and I just stuck those in the apothecary jar and kind of fluffed them out and arranged them as nicely as I thought I could... and I love it. I Love the green showing in the bottom and the pop of color on top th

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S2 Ep3- The Waldo Movement

Okay... I have to say after watching this episode I didn't quite know what to say about it in a review... and I just kind of stopped reviewing each episode on this blog... and I thought "ehhh I've got a few months prescheduled... I'll write it later." But I didn't... And I thought I would re-watch it before writing this today... and I tried re-watching it and I just didn't want to. It's one of the more sad episodes of Black Mirror...and kind of one of the more realistic ones... so I feel like that makes it harder to watch. So I don't really remember much of the episode... but I remember the basis of it. A comedian has this character that's a cartoon that makes some political commentary and he goes after this one politician and ends up gaining a lot of popularity. I believe this politician had some sort of scandal... but he's been in office for so long he was still really popular although slightly corrupt... and this woman runs against

The Best (and worst) Scary Movies

So since it's Friday the 13th... I thought I'd try talking about every scary movie I've seen and... we'll just see if I can remember the plot exactly and if they're good or bad. I like scary movies... but I don't see them that often and I don't totally remember the plot of all of them. Let's start out with the first one that I ever saw! The House on Haunted Hill (1999)  I saw this when I was pretty young... I was maybe 10 or younger when I saw this one... and honestly... It is a really scary movie for a 10-ish year old... and there was a lot of mature content that went over my head at the time... and I was kind of a scaredy cat as a kid... but this didn't really give me nightmares. I think it's mainly because there were really only 2 likable characters in the bunch and those 2 ended up making it to the end of the movie... so that was pretty good. I didn't know the cast of the movie at the time... but now looking at the cast list- I want

Scribbles About Life: Speed Dating?

So- I just got back home from my first experience speed dating at my favorite bar in the area... and honestly it was really fun! Side note... I did mention to a bunch of people that I wrote the blog that was the #1 google result for List of Moose Puns (true story) and on the off chance anyone is reading this... that's cool. Everyone was actually pretty nice. Guys really like Game of Thrones... so if you're looking for a dude... watch Game of Thrones? I only saw the first season and I liked it but never watched more of it. Anyway... this is not a Game of Thrones Review... I wanted to talk about speed dating. So the bar that did it is a really nice bar... but not the best for an event like this... and where they had it just kind of felt awkward. My ears are still ringing because it was very loud... it's also really dark- and they gave very tiny name tags for everyone that basically no one could read... so that was all kind of awkward. It was also very hot... so I was sweat

Scribbles About TV: The Santa Clarita Diet Season 2

So I watched this a while ago... when it first came out actually and I liked it a lot... but I didn't want to bingewatch it and I ended up bingewatching it all in one day... so I wanted to go back and watch it a little bit at a time... and then review it. And of corse... by that time I forgot to review it- so that's why I'm reviewing it now lol. This might be one of my favorite comedies on Netflix... I think I like it more than Grace and Frankie but less than Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I thought the first season was really great and suspenseful... although less violent than I thought it would be. This season I think was a little bit more violent and a little bit more suspenseful... but honestly... a little bit more funny. I think they kind of did a lot this season too... I didn't think we would find out what exactly caused Sheila's sickness... I didn't think that the serum they were working on last season would work right away... but I was kind of happy about

Scribbles About Movies: Love, Simon Review

Heyyy guys! Something exciting happened today! I went to the movies! My mom and I like going to the movies together... but we don't get out to much... but today we did and I thought "Love, Simon" looked like the most fun movie out. Also... this is a teen movie- and I've realized I'm slightly into teen movies. Especially now that I'm not a teen. So the movie focuses on Simon who is a gay high schooler that's still in the closet... and how he's been dealing with coming out and trying to connect with a boy. Simon met the boy anonymously from a blog that's kind of like the high school's version of Gossip Girl when he posted that he felt like his life was like a Ferris Wheel with all the ups and downs... and then that inspired Simon to connect with him and say he was going through the same thing... and they just clicked and the Ferris Wheel guy didn't want to reveal who he was to Simon because he still wasn't ready to come out publicly...

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S2 Ep2: White Bear

So... I had heard part of the ending of this episode before but I didn't really remember it when I was watching this episode... it's pretty shocking and kind of hard to analyze... so I'll put a link to  this  video talking about it... just in case you wanted to check that out... I'm not saying I'll say the same things... but I liked this breakdown of it all... but I mean watch the episode first because this was a good twist and I don't really want to ruin it for you! So our main character in this episode is a woman, who's name we find out later is Victoria. Victoria wakes up with no memory and when she walks outside of her house- no one talks to her- everyone is just filming her... and it appears to be this dystopian society where people are basically zombies only using their phone to film people in horrible ways. There are a few people that weren't affected by this... one woman that ends up helping her, some man that is trying to kill her... and peopl

Top 10 Favorite Albums Of All Time (Kind of... but not that serious.)

Sooo I was tagged in a Facebook Challenge to do my Top 10 Favorite Albums of All Time... and I thought I'd post that here too! By the time I'm posting this I'm done with the challenge... but at the time of starting this... I'm not. And I have no idea what I'm picking for the end of the challenge... so that should be fun. Actually I'm going to post this earlier because I'm a little lazy and I didn't have anything written for the day! 1) Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast)  I want to say this one is just my favorite of all time... but I also know I can't completely say that. This is probably the one I could listen to every single day for the rest of my life and still get emotional for... It gives me goosebumps, it makes me cry and it's an amazing story... an amazing way to tell the story... and if you're lucky enough to see it live... it's just all around amazing. My mom and I watched Jesus Christ Superstar this weekend... and my mom

Two-sday: Two "Pretentious" Directors That I Love

So I was thinking about something in the shower... as you do... and... I realized that there are 2 directors that I really love... and I feel like they're kind of polarizing... where some people love them, some people hate them... and they're often Critically acclaimed but never really award winning. And I feel like when I say I like these two directors people are like "Well, of corse you do!" And I don't think they're pretentious per se... but my mom would think the movies are weird... so that's how I'm defining "Pretentious" in this instance... so I hope these directors aren't thinking that I'm calling them pretentious... I also don't think that's a bad thing... but anyway I love them and here they are! 1) Baz Luhrmann- Luhrmann is known for the movies Moulin Rouge!, 1996's Romeo+ Juliet, and The Great Gatsby. I've never seen the movie Australia- but he also directed that. I think he has a very interesting style. M

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S2Ep1- Be Right Back

First off I'd like to leave  this  link with an analysis of the episode from Harry's Moving Castle... He does great videos analyzing each episode... and he discussed some themes that I didn't initially realize when watching this- like the Social Media Addiction of Domhnall  Gleeson's Character Ash- and I probably won't talk about because this isn't what I got from the episode... so I don't want to include it... but it is something important and I really liked his way of explaining it. Secondly- After watching this and The Entire History of You...this was when I needed a break from the show. I don't know why these episodes specifically... they aren't the darkest episodes of the series... but in a way they kind of are... and this one specifically I thought was the most unsettling of all the episodes... so it was just kind of hard to watch. I don't really know why. I think maybe it was this combined with The Entire History Of You... I don't
