Okay... so I'm a little obsessed with NBC's show Good Girls. I was going to do a full review on it... but I thought maybe I could skip that and just tell you guys my favorite little details that I noticed in the Pilot that really made the show quite special... in my opinion. Little jokes, metaphors, similar shots... there was a lot in the first episode and I really loved all those details... so lets just get into it!
1) The Fine n Frugal- Mae Whitman's character Annie works at a store called the Fine n Frugal, which the three ladies later end up robbing. I just think the name is funny... and its fitting. Is this the best job Annie could have? No- but it's fine. Is this the best grocery store ever? Nope- but it's fine because it's there. Is everything fine internally in the store... no. But people will still shop there because it's fine and frugal.
2) The Pigs Fly Ad- Now onto Matthew Lillard's character, Dean Boland. Dean runs a car dealership and he's on a local commercial with a very pretty employee and the "tagline" of the commercial I guess is "when Pig's Fly" and Dean dresses as a pig and flies while carrying this younger employee. 1- Dean we find out is cheating on his wife Beth with this woman... so he really is a pig. 2- The advertisement is totally ridiculous... and that seems to be how the town sort of works. It's a little over the top but still believable. 3-The scene where Beth crashes into the flying pig is just so great and an iconic moment from the pilot. I love it!
3) The Scene Where Beth Gets A Wax/ The Scene Where Beth is Crushed, Lying Down After She Finds Out About Dean's Affair- So this is a pretty brilliant scene and one that I found most meaningful in the Pilot episode. I didn't notice it the first time I watched it but the second time around... you can see that when she's lying down on the couch she's in the same position making just about the same face as when she got waxed. And it's especially sad, because when she's getting waxed she's thinking "This can spice up my marriage and maybe I can save it" and then when she finds out her husband has an affair... she's crushed and her whole world is different. She doesn't know what to do anymore.
4) The Rainbow Heart Drawing in Annie's House- Annie hasn't exactly said anything about Annie's Daughter Sadie's Gender or Sexuality because Annie doesn't think anything of it... It's really only mentioned by Sadie's father that seems out of touch with Sadie. I think it's heavily hinted at in the pilot and there's a rainbow heart in the background of Annie's Apartment displayed proudly... so it shows Annie really doesn't think anything about it... Sadie is her kid and she's proud of who she is. Side Note: Sadie is a great kid too... when she mentioned her mom's car being better than the porshe it's just so sweet and I really liked that moment too. There's a lot of heart in this show.
5) Ruby's Husband Saying "He'll Fix The Gate" and He Never Does- I think this detail is going to be more telling as time goes on... and I feel like I'm already getting that from the last couple of episodes too. Ruby and Her husband seem like the only functional couple on the show... but there are still little details... and this is the first thing we really see ad far as that front goes on. Stan is coming home to see Ruby with a baseball bat, nervous that one of the "Bad Guys" was coming to get her... but it's just her husband Stan and she says "You keep saying you're going to fix the gate and you never do." And... that's just a very small frustration that actually could end up being very, very dangerous for their family.
So... those are just all the little details I love about this show. What do you guys love about it? I might do more of these... I'm thinking of doing one for 9-1-1 to prepare for the finale... because that's my current favorite show... so yeah!
