Chart Chat Spotlight: The Greatest Showman

I thought I would do something a little bit different this week and instead of going through the full top 10 charts,  I'll focus on just one movie and the first movie I'm starting out with is The Greatest Showman.

Now I have not seen this movie yet- I don't really get to see a lot of movies and with the Flu Season being so bad this year... I haven't had a huge desire to actually go in a movie theater because of that... although I do want to see Game Night quite a lot... anyway this movie I was skeptical about. I remember doing a trailer review of it and I just thought the timing of this movie was bizarre. It was right after The Barnum and Bailey Circus closed... it seemed like a bleak future for The Circus... and even though I know everyone does love a good old fashioned circus... but it's still a little too early for the nostalgia of it all.

The other part about this is that it's an Original Musical... which can either go well or terribly... and it seems like critics and audiences were split on this one... which I'll get more into in a bit. Hugh Jackman, Zac Effron and Michelle Williams are all in the cast and they are known for musicals. Hugh Jackman has been on Broadway, Michelle Williams was in Cabaret and Zac Effron is well known for High School Musical.  It seemed like well cast... but also these aren't the best known people in musicals... of corse that could end up being really really good because movies like La La Land and Chicago had stars that weren't in musicals- so if you get a good enough cast the movie will be great anyway.

So this movie didn't get great critical praise... It has a 55% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes... but the Audience Score is much higher at 89%. This movie has been on the charts for 10 weeks! I don't think it's ever been number 1 at the box office... but it's been in the top 10 for a while and I think even in the top 5 for quite a while too. All the actual people I know that have seen the movie absolutely love it and say it's probably the best movie of 2017... so even though critics aren't that keen on this movie- just based on word of mouth I would recommend checking this out whenever you can because I've just heard really great things about it!

Another thing that I'm kind of hoping for this movie: a comeback for Zac Effron. Zac Effron is talented and he's been in so many movies that have been terribly unsuccessful and critically panned. That Awkward Moment, Dirty Grandpa, Baywatch, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (which I don't think was either unsuccessful or critically panned... but it didn't look like his best acting abilities.) He needed a little bit of a boost and I'm hoping this is the start of a comeback for him. I honestly like him a lot as an actor... he was pretty good in Charlie St. Cloud, I didn't see all of 17 Again... but I like that movie... and I think he can have a certain charm that not every actor has... I don't think he has it in every movie that he's in... but he has it for sure! The Lucky One was another movie I really liked him in... I'm not a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks... but I liked that one!

So yeah- should I see this movie? Should I skip it? Download the soundtrack? It's been on the charts for 10 weeks... this week it is number 8 on the charts and it's made 160 Million dollars... so it's not doing too bad!

Hope you guys like this little update... I just thought maybe it was time for a change! Maybe I could just showcase one movie from the charts and talk about my feelings towards it! I'll probably do this for music also... so I might change from week to week!

Byee!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
