So I was so excited about this movie coming out...and I didn't get to see it until now! And it was well worth the wait!
There's so much that I really loved about this movie... I'm not even sure where to start... I'm thinking of starting with the family aspect of this movie because I thought that these characters were really great and they were really nice, well developed characters too. I think they all changed at the end of the movie... which is really nice. It was sweet how close everyone was even if they didn't agree on everything... and that just made the ending even sweeter. And there's even a little bit of a twist involving the family... and I thought that was done well and it made the movie a lot better.
So with that twist in mind... it was predictable. But this is an adult who has been a massive Pixar fan since the first Toy Story came out... so for most of my life I've been a massive Pixar fan... I write Pixar's rules to storytelling in pretty much all of my notebooks to help inspire me to write... plus I have knowledge of how to write and how to incorporate twists... so that all kind of helps. But yeah at one point in the movie I said... *Spoilers* "Hector is really Miguel's great great grandfather and De La Cruz died because he was cursed for stealing Hector's songs after he died." And that's a good twist! I was pretty impressed because it was kind of dark for Pixar and it was sweet because it brought Hector and Miguel closer together... and then it eventually brought Hector to his wife and baby girl, Mama Coco! So it was sweet.
It was also really cool because this whole movie takes place on Dia De Los Muertos and it shows the holiday really well. I love any sort of holiday movie- so I thought that was cool but this is also a holiday that isn't a holiday that every country celebrates... so that was cool too! I knew a little bit about it from Spanish classes I've had in High School and college... but this made me feel like I was actually there... and it was cute. I felt more connected to loved ones that have passed when I was watching this. It was sweet to see how easily Miguel fit in with family members that he never had a chance to meet, or even really hear much about at all... and it's because they've been there for him his whole life and they love him. It was so so sweet.
This was also one of the most beautiful movies I've seen... the colors were all so vibrant and fantastic... the land of the dead was beautiful... The allebrijes were gorgeous... I just thought it was one of the most beautiful Pixar movies... it was fantastic and it was kind of dark at times but the message was very much loving and warm... it was just represented well through the animation and it was just really good. I loved it.
I think that's everything I want to say about this movie... It's one of my favorite movies I've seen recently and I love it. This was a nice break from the Marvel Movies... I keep starting Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 2 and not finishing it... so I need to finish that movie tonight... so yeah.
