Rise Got Cancelled... And Here's Why

So if you guys remember a few weeks ago- I posted about a new TV Show I was obsessed with called Rise. If you want to read my initial review... you can check it out right here.

Now I used to LOVE reviewing new tv shows... but what would pretty much always happen is I would give the show an okay review... and then I'd never end up watching it again and it would get cancelled... so now I'm trying to do my reviews a little bit differently... I'm trying to watch the show a little more closely- maybe watch the pilot twice and then if I continue watching it I'll do some sort of review... I liked my post on the little details I liked about Good Girls instead of just posting a review on it... so I think I'm going to do that now.

Anyway... Rise was a show that I thought was off to a strong start. At first I didn't really think it was that realistic for a high school to do a performance of Spring Awakening... and I thought it was a little weird for Josh Radnor's character to so desperately want this. I also don't think Radnor is the best actor in the world... I don't think he's as bad as Wes Bentley- who is my least favorite actor that is frequently cast in shows that I like... but I think if I were to come up with a list of actors Josh Radnor is better than... I think the list might just be Wes Bentley.

Aside from that... over time when they showed the kids also- they weren't realistic either. On The Joel McHale show he frequently mocked this show... and he mentioned one scene where they were having a party and Robbie's overbearing father said that the party was getting "out of control" when it was not even close to being out of control. It was just a group of kids singing for the most part.

And then Radnor's character kept getting worse and worse too. It was at the point here he was so unrealistic and so unlikable I just complained any time he was on screen. He just kind of took the job from Rosie Perez's character and he bossed her around and was always fighting with her...it just didn't really work.

And then there were times when something could have happened... and it didn't. Like when Lilette was in the house alone... my mom thought her boss from the diner was going to break into the house and do something... but he didn't. In fact- we never really saw her at the diner after her mother quit for being sexually harassed... even though Lilette still worked there and they could have had some drama there.... so it was like we were setting ourselves up for something amazing to happen... and nothing did... so we were just disappointed and we knew as much as the story was kind of dragged out... nothing was really going to matter.

Also the name of the show... Rise... it doesn't really sound like anything. I think that they were trying to make it sound like Hamilton... but there was only a little bit of Hamilton in the pilot... and a cheesy moment where Radnor's character sang Hamilton for no real reason... I don't know what else they could have named the show... but I think even if they called it Stanton High Drama it could have been a little better. Oh and this was based off of a book- so they could have named it after what they titled the book... and they didn't. So that was a little upsetting too.

Overall- I still liked the show. I wish it had another season... it could still maybe be saved- but not likely... I will continue to watch it- like with the finale... and if it does end up getting picked up by another network or something I'll watch it... but for right now I understand why it was cancelled and I'm okay with that. I hope that the kids from this show go on to do something else because they are very talented and I've followed all of them on Instagram because I like the show so much.

Hope you guys liked this post!
Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
