Scribbles About Books: Matched Chapter 7 (Spoilers)

So I was reading Matched... which I talked about yesterday in my post... and I liked a chapter so much I wanted to review that chapter alone without knowing how the book is going to end... I'll probably do this if a chapter kind of effects me like this one does. I don't want to get too spoiler-y but there were a lot of feelings I had about this chapter... and I think it's pretty beautiful and this chapter changed how I felt about the book as a whole a little bit... So this chapter focuses on the main character, Cassia's grandfather's Eightieth birthday... which in The Society, is the day that they die. The Society chose this end for the people... so they don't have much of a choice in the matter. There are still some diseases in The Society- which Cassia's Grandmother had already passed away from... and it's unusual for someone Cassia's age to have an 80 year old Grandfather. He had been matched later on in his life than most people... The Societ

Spring Reading List!

I've been buying a lot of books recently... and I have to say... I have not been reading a lot recently... so I really need to get on it and read these things! Here's what I have and why I want to read them! Matched by Ally Condie- This is a Dystopian YA Novel about a society that matches people up at the age of 16. They have a big ceremony and the girls are in one room and the boys are in another and they each get to see who their match would be and learn more about them... I've started reading this and I have to say that I... don't know how I feel about it. It's interesting- I'm really not far in at all in the book... but I'm not drawn in immediately... it's a short book and I should want to read it more... but I just don't. And I got this book not so much for enjoyment but more because I want to write something that might be similar in tone... although it is not a YA or Dystopian...and I think the theme might be different entirely- but I didn&

TV Roundup- What I think of Some New Shows!

I thought I would just do one whole big roundup of some of the new tv shows... what I think of them, what's working, what isn't working... and just everything! I did not love Splitting Up Together... I'm going to start out with that. When I saw the previews I was like "Oh, I love Jenna Fisher and I also like Oliver Hudson... but this show is going to get cancelled." And I think I'm right. I think maybe they'll give it a season 2... but it's very similar to The Real O'Neils. The Real O'Neils was a pretty okay tv show a couple of years ago on ABC where the parents got divorced, but the dad still lived in the basement. There was a lot of other stuff going on in The Real O'Neils- and the cast was pretty talented... but I think it's a hard thing for people to relate to when there's so much else on tv right now... I just don't think it really stood up. And this is kind of the same. Jenna Fisher and Oliver Hudson are talented, the cre

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S1 Ep3 The Entire History of You

Okay... so this is the first episode in the first season where I was like "Ohhh- this world seems familiar." I feel like there's a lot of this kind of technology in further episodes of Black Mirror... and that's something I definitely didn't get when I was watching these episodes as stand alones... so I'll get into the recap of it and then I'll review it. And before I recap I'll post a link to the current videos I'm watching recapping the series right  here . I was watching the Gamespot Universe recaps- which I enjoyed... but they don't have recaps for the earlier seasons- only for season 4... so I watched this reviewer instead... I didn't really agree with his analysis of 15 Million Merits... so I didn't link it in the last post I did of this... but I really liked what he said about this episode and it helps to have some visuals of the episode if you haven't seen it yet. There are spoilers in his review though... so I wouldn'

Throwback Thursday- Older Youtube Edition

Alright... today's throwback is going to be a little different... but I'm going to talk about some youtube videos from one of the first huge youtubers- Ray William Johnson. He was the number 1 youtuber for a long time not too long ago... and now his channel is really different. He did have 3 channels that I watched and there was another spinoff and I think he was in a web series... I kind of want to have this as an appreciation of these videos... I watched a video kind of criticizing some of these channels and I thought that video was a little harsh and I don't think it was that informative... so I just kind of want to say I'm not trying to criticize him or question his choices. This is just something that used to be on the internet that isn't anymore and I'm kind of missing these types of videos... although I wouldn't say I'm nostalgic for it. Times change and I don't really think these videos would work today... youtube has changed a lot and comedy

Be A Better Blogger: One Thing That Is Making Things A Little Easier

So- you guys probably know that I've been trying to work on this particular blog a little bit more lately. I really like blogging... I've just been slipping behind on this one compared to my other beauty blog... but I did one thing that I think will make everything easier... and I've only really been doing it today... but I want to keep up with it for blogging/ writing in the future because so far today I've edited and I'm working on this blog with very little distraction and I'm happy about it. And it's like the simplest thing too... so here's the tip/tips. It's really just one tip all together... but there are other tips along with it... so it helps. Have a Nice Desk That You Really Like To Stay At.  The desk is everything. I just cleaned mine up yesterday and I have to say I'm in love with the way everything is arranged right now. It is a little bit cluttered... but I like some clutter and it really kind of helps because everything is jus

Scribbles About TV: Rise

So NBC's been killing it with their shows lately... and I have to say... I think Good Girls is my favorite... but I just can't stop thinking about Rise! Here are some things I love about it! Josh Radner's Acting Abilities Finally Shine!  I'm a fan of How I Met Your Mother... and I'm one of the rare people that actually really did like Ted Mosby as a character... and Josh Radner is talented... but despite being the main character of How I Met Your Mother... he kind of faded into the backround with the very over the top comedic performances of all the other characters. Radnor kept it grounded and I think that's a hard thing to do with all of those other characters. That being said... it's hard to tell whether or not he's the best actor... that's the only thing I've seen him in and... he was okay but I always thought he was trying to be more of a director. In this show- I think he really is his character. I think his actual passion for the sho

The Ratings Game: Lowest Rated and Highest Rated Episodes of The Office

I thought I'd do something different today... cause this is something that kind of interests me... I don't know if anyone else would be interested in this at all... but I like knowing what the highest rated and lowest rated episodes of TV shows are... and I've been watching The Office a lot lately and I've seen both of these episodes pretty recently, so it seemed like as good a time as any to compare the two episodes! Highest Rated- Stress Relief  Season 5 episodes 14+15   (aired February 1st 2009) 22.91 million viewers  So the highest rated episode of the show is Stress Relief. This aired after the Super Bowl in the fifth season of the show and it got 22.91 million viewers  According to Wikipedia . The second most viewed episode of the series was the Pilot- which had 11.20 million viewers... so quite a difference there! This is one of my favorite episodes of the show in general... I think personally for me it's 2nd or third on the list for me after Mafia and

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S1 Ep 2: 15 Million Merits

Okay... so this episode is a little bit more what I've come to expect from Black Mirror I guess... so had I watched the episodes in order I think this would maybe make more sense to me than The National Anthem... which I reviewed last week. This is a complete dystopia in a really real and kind of beautiful way... I just kind of liked how they showed everything. So this episode kind of just puts us in the world with little explanation... to me it seemed like a world that was obsessed with fitness and looks. It showed people in this confined space with no windows or anything to really see or do except these giant screens that everyone is forced to watch at all times. I think they get "merits" which is their form of currency by riding an exercise bike and they mostly use merits for food or to skip over advertisements... which actually costs them more than their food. They also don't really interact with anyone... most of their emotions are seen through Avatars similar

The Pudding Story

I'm not sure if I've ever told this story on this blog before... but I'm going to talk about this now! This is an actual story too! So this is a real Scribble about my Real Life. Scary! I feel like I never talk about that anymore!  So when I went to 6th Grade it was a new school for me. It was a Grammar School that I just started in 6th Grade and I went to public school in kindergarden-5th grade... so I was the new kid and the school was a bit different for me. And the group of friends I made were very nice and I'm still friends with most of them today... so that was good. But when I first met them I was sort of known as the girl that laughed a lot. I laughed at the end of every sentence... I don't think I do that anymore- but I'm not sure. I did that pretty much all through high school and some of college. But I laughed a lot... and I had a funny laugh too. I would try to laugh like Karen from Will and Grace because she's my idol... Seriously- as a kid I

The Best Small Details About Good Girls Pilot Episode.

Okay... so I'm a little obsessed with NBC's show Good Girls. I was going to do a full review on it... but I thought maybe I could skip that and just tell you guys my favorite little details that I noticed in the Pilot that really made the show quite special... in my opinion. Little jokes, metaphors, similar shots... there was a lot in the first episode and I really loved all those details... so lets just get into it! 1) The Fine n Frugal- Mae Whitman's character Annie works at a store called the Fine n Frugal, which the three ladies later end up robbing. I just think the name is funny... and its fitting. Is this the best job Annie could have? No- but it's fine. Is this the best grocery store ever? Nope- but it's fine because it's there. Is everything fine internally in the store... no. But people will still shop there because it's fine and frugal. 2) The Pigs Fly Ad- Now onto Matthew Lillard's character, Dean Boland. Dean runs a car dealership and he

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S1 Ep 1- The National Anthem

Alright... after watching Black Museum I didn't really think anything could make me feel more uncomfortable to write about... then I watched the first few minutes of this and I was like "Huh... that'll be an interesting recap."  So this episode is about an unknown person that kidnaps a Princess and says he will only release her if the prime minister has sex with a pig on live national television... and that's when things get crazy... They show the prime minister's first reaction to this which is "no way in hell am I doing that." Everyone else's reactions saying "Yes... definitely don't do that." The polls all pretty much say "No don't do that." Until the kidnapper sends a finger and everyone says "Yes... do that save the princess." And the whole thing is more about what the Prime Minister needs to do for his own approval rating vs. what he's doing for his safety or for the princess... and everyone'

Latest Oscar Recap Ever

So I did want to do a recap of the Oscars- I mentioned that and although I only saw one of the movies nominated- Get Out- I still thought I had enough that I could really do a good review of and I have some things to say so here we go! Allllright so first off I liked Jimmy Kimmel as a host last year... I think he did a pretty okay job... Jimmy Kimmel isn't my favorite late night talk show... I usually skip it- but I do like some segments and I think Kimmel is a good person. I kind of wish he spoke out more against people like Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck and Matt Damon... he sort of had a good opportunity to do that and I think he could have... but annnnyway I thought he did a good job the previous year... and I think this year he improved. He might not have been on it a lot... but I liked that they went to a movie theater to surprise moviegoers... although I think they might have done that last year. I liked his opening monologue... overall I just think he's a good pick an

What I Love About Going To The Movies

So I thought I'd do a bit of a different post today. I was kind of going to do a full "Oscars Week" Theme because I was excited to do a recap... but to be honest... I haven't seen any of the movies besides Get Out and I just don't think I'm that excited about those ideas and I'm only writing what I'm really passionate about right now... so as much as I do want to see all the nominated films because they do look excellent... I'm not sure how much better this blog will be if I mention that. That being said- let's talk about something I love and I think I've loved even more recently: Going to the movies! I know- I always complain that I don't go to the movies a lot because it is expensive, it's cold and flu season right now... I don't really have any friends that like going to the movies that much... it just isn't something that happens regularly for me... and I'm okay with that... but I'm going to say it is kind of m

Scribbles About TV: Black Mirror S4 Ep 6 Black Museum

This episode is a tough one to handle... but it's probably the best episode of anything ever maybe... it's just really good. So in this episode a young woman named Nish stumbles into an odd museum claiming to be about criminals... and we see there are lots of odd artifacts used by different criminals... including the smashed Arkangel device from Arkangel, the device used to clone people from USS Callister along with the lollipop with the child's DNA on it... there were a lot of references to episodes in this season and from other episodes of Black Mirror. Some episodes were not referenced- which I guess means that those episodes took place after this episode took place... which is something that I want to get into after I finish up all the seasons because I know there's a shared universe here and this episode kind of confirms it more than anything. But there are 3 main attractions that we're introduced to from a man named Rolo Haynes that used to be a medical te

Chart Chat Spotlight: The Greatest Showman

I thought I would do something a little bit different this week and instead of going through the full top 10 charts,  I'll focus on just one movie and the first movie I'm starting out with is The Greatest Showman. Now I have not seen this movie yet- I don't really get to see a lot of movies and with the Flu Season being so bad this year... I haven't had a huge desire to actually go in a movie theater because of that... although I do want to see Game Night quite a lot... anyway this movie I was skeptical about. I remember doing a trailer review of it and I just thought the timing of this movie was bizarre. It was right after The Barnum and Bailey Circus closed... it seemed like a bleak future for The Circus... and even though I know everyone does love a good old fashioned circus... but it's still a little too early for the nostalgia of it all. The other part about this is that it's an Original Musical... which can either go well or terribly... and it seems li

Marvel Movies That I'm Interested In Even Though I don't Really Like Marvel Movies

Sooo... I was just kind of thinking "I really want to see Black Panther." And I'm not all that into Marvel Movies... so this is kind of a big deal... and then I thought "hey... there are other Marvel Movies that I'd like to see... this might be a blog. So... I'll start with that. A lot of these are sequels and I haven't seen the first one in every movie... but either way... these are movies. Lol. Black Panther  Okay obviously Black Panther was the inspiration for all of this... so that's first on this list. I just like the actors in this movie... I like Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyongo and Letitia Wright a lot... I think Letitia Wright is really going places. I loved her in the Black Museum episode of Black Mirror and I just think she's fun to watch on screen... and I think she'll be great in a movie. I don't know how big of a part she'll have... but I like her and I'm excited about this. The movie itself also looks beautif

Throwback Thursday: Meet The Robinson's

Alright this was a really cute movie. It came out in 2007... and I wasn't super into the way it looked back then... but my cousins told me it was good and I just kind of want to see every Disney animated movie... so this was on my list... especially since it is on Netflix right now. And I do have to say... as an adult this is a very childish movie and there isn't a ton of jokes in there for adults to find amusing and entertaining. This isn't something I usually say as a critique... cause usually I do end up enjoying the movies anyway and this really wasn't meant for the parents to enjoy... it is for the kids. I did still find this funny and enjoyable but just know that this is a movie for little kids... and I feel like it might be easy for adults to fall asleep in the middle of it because it isn't the most interesting.  That being said though... I really loved this movie. The message about "Keep Moving Forward" was very sweet and it was an incredib
