Brightburn Movie Review

I had no idea what this movie was about before I saw it- but my boyfriend had it digitally and we had a social distancing movie date of streaming this movie and watching it together... which was great! I did really like this movie overall... but it did have some problems.

So this is a horror movie that is basically if Superman was a villain. The Breyer family lives on a farm in a town called Brightburn and around their son Brandon's 12th birthday he starts acting a little peculiar. He wakes up in the middle of the nice hearing voices, he's been very angry around his parents and a girl he likes at school who thought she saw him outside of her window... all very strange things happening with this kid. And we find out his parents adopted him when they found him in a spaceship.

The story is interesting. It actually is scary and I feel like this would have been fun to see in theaters... but the characters were a little flat. The characters are all detailed pretty well, the mom is an artist that always wears a band t shirt and she sings Bob Marley to Brandon to get him to go back to sleep... and I thought her character was built nicely... as were the other characters... but there was no real motive for anyone. Especially the main character Brandon. He's evil and we know it's just because of his super powers... but there's nothing really explaining why he wants to take over the world or anything... just he's a bad, evil kid that doesn't want to get caught. And he was almost TOO powerful to the point where it felt inevitable that no one could really stop him.

The movie was well directed in my opinion. There was one scene where Brandon's dad sees him chewing a fork and the fork gets destroyed... and no one ever mentions it to any other characters and it just doesn't come up again. It felt like a scene that was supposed to be deleted but they just kept it in... and that was kind of weird. The movie was pretty well paced too where one moment it seems like you're just watching a wholesome family movie and then it gets kind of gory and scary really quick. And the tone seems like a horror movie all throughout- like I knew nothing about the movie and my boyfriend didn't tell me... but I knew it was a horror movie right away.

This was written by Brian and Mark Gunn- who are the brother and cousin of James Gunn. James Gunn produced the movie. At the end of the credits they show some news reports and my boyfriend said that he saw Rainn Wilson's character from Super- which is also a James Gunn movie... so that is interesting. I wonder if there's going to be something more of these movies... probably not but that would be interesting. I would actually watch any other movie set in this universe even though I'd say it wasn't the best.

Overall I would say watch this movie if you like Superman, if you like James Gunn movies, or if you like horror movies with a little bit of a darker gorier aspect to it. It's not TOO gory- but there were some scenes that showed more than I would expect it to show. It was done well. Not the best movie because of the character's lack of motivation- but I'd still give it 2 and a half out of 5 stars. Watchable but not amazing.

Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
