Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...

Scribbles About Books: Sisters by Raina Telgemeir

Okay! So now I read and reviewed 3 of Raina Telgemeir's books! I think my sister is working on one more so I'll read that when she is done. I love these... they are aimed more for kids or teens... but I think adults can enjoy them just as much- and if you love a nice story and some beautiful artwork- I would say definitely check these out! They are all graphic novels and I love them! I thought that this was a really fun read... I think at first I enjoyed it a little bit less than the other books from Raina that I've read... but I also think this is incredibly easy to relate to and just kind of a fun read... maybe one of the funnest reads from her. I thought the situations and the animation and everything from this story was just really funny and really good. It mostly takes place on this family road trip and 2 sisters... one 14 and one 6... who are arguing the whole time. They also include a lot of flashbacks in the story. It includes things that happen earlier in the s...

Song of The Day: Graduation (Friends Forever) by Vitamin C

So I thought Songs of The Day would be fun. I did this a long time ago and I wanted to do this every week at one point... but I don't think I ever really did. But anyway- this song used to make me sad as a kid thinking about the future and growing up... now it kind of makes me think of the past and how I never really grew up... so that's weird. I think the scariest part of this song is in the beginning it mentions "Always thinking about we'll be when we turn 25." I'll be 27 next month... so that's super scary to think of... I thought I'd have something to show by now... like a movie that I wrote or starred in or something... ugh. That is really scary! Anyway... so am I friends with the people I was friends with the first time I listened to this song and it made me sad... no... I mean it's easier to catch up with people now because of Facebook... but other than liking a post every once and a while and seeing how cute some people's kids are...

Bad Breakup Story

So I thought I would mention "The Breakup" since I just talked about the worst first date ever... and although I went out with this guy a few more times... it didn't last long though and we broke up in a weird way. So- in high school "being facebook official" is a big thing... it probably still is. I remember people celebrating where their anniversaries are when they became facebook official instead of when they actually first went out... I don't know. We had sort of talked about this second date and if it meant we were boyfriend or girlfriend... and in my mind- he was kind of giving me the control with what to do with that. So I didn't really discuss it before putting up that I was in a relationship on facebook without really consulting with him... and this freaked him out because all of a sudden he was like "I just broke up with someone and I'm not ready to be in a relationship yet." Seriously? I gave him a month after the first horri...

The Worst First Date Of All Time

Okay... so I don't know if you can even call this a first date... but I started mentioning this in yesterday's post... so today I'm going to talk about it a little bit more. An important point to the plot: this was shortly after the Parks and Rec Galentine's Day Episode... and on February 13th I said to my girl friends "Oh my god! We need to do Galentine's Day on February 13th! It'll be so much fun! We can see a movie and get lunch and shop!" So these plans were set in stone pretty early. Then lo and behold: The guy I had been liking forever broke up with his on again off again girlfriend and wanted to go out with me! So we were supposed to see a movie Friday Night with my best friend and her boyfriend at the time... but then he couldn't go then and asked me to go to a movie with him on Saturday. So my friends were okay that I was going out with him on Galentine's Day- but I was still going to hang out with them beforehand. And they could s...

Shannon Loves: Minions

Okay... so this may seem like an odd post to do during "School Month" but my love of minions actually happened when I was in college... so I feel like I need to kind of explain the whole Minion situation. First I should explain the previews for Despicable Me... when I was in High School I was a pretty big comedy geek... so when I saw a movie was coming out with Steve Carell, Jack McBrayer, Jemaine Clement, Kristin Wiig, Will Arnett and Russell Brand listed on the credits... I was pretty dang excited! Next preview I was on The Worst First Date Of All Time... which I guess I'll get to later... but yeah. It was bad enough that it deserves capitals and a title in this little section of the post... so that's fun. But anyway they showed the Minions flipping the cow cup... and I thought it was the funniest thing ever... and the guy I was with didn't laugh... so that should have been a warning sign then... but I feel like finding a guy that appreciates my Minion obses...

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Review

Okay so this is a movie I was actually super impressed with! I saw the previews for it and I didn't think I would like it at all... I'm a big fan of the original but the trailer had nothing I liked in it. I didn't want to see it in theaters... but then I saw it on sale at Target and I thought "Eh, why not." And honestly... there's nothing that I didn't like about the movie! This is definitely the best way to re-do something... I think of all the reboot's that have been done so far- this is my favorite. I also really liked that it was a "school" movie. The original Jumanji was great but it just showed 2 kids that just moved to a new town... it didn't show anything about their school or anything. This was a group of high schoolers and it has a little bit of a "Breakfast Club" vibe. You have an outcast girl that gets in trouble for speaking her mind, a jock, a girl obsessed with Instagram and boys, and a nerdy guy... and they kin...
