Hey Daily Somethingers- today I'm going to talk about my recent trip to Atlantic City with my boyfriend... it was our first trip together... and I thought I'd let you guys know what we did and what we thought of everything. I'm going to go more into detail tomorrow on the packing and then on Wednesday I'm going to show everything that I bought and share that with you guys... but this is going to be a longer blog about everything we did.
We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. I'm pretty sure that this is the newest hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. I think its just been open for about a year... I went to Atlantic City a little over a year ago and I stayed at Showboat and I don't think this was up yet... so it's really new. This used to be Taj Mahal... and I went to it at Taj Mahal when I was 21... and I'm very happy its changed now. It was pretty crappy as Taj Mahal! Now it's pretty amazing and beautiful and has a lot of really great restaurants. The Employees were also SUPER nice and helpful. It was just a really nice, relaxed atmosphere. Sometimes Hotels seem snooty, sometimes it seems like the employees do not want to be there... in this hotel everyone was great and helpful and just treated everyone like they were nice guests. It was really great.
The rooms themselves were also really nice and comfortable! It was a big room- there were some kind of abstract Rock Music themed paintings in the room... but it wasn't cheesy. The bathrooms were really big and they were nice. The bed was super comfy and I slept really well on it. There were tons of outlets and USB ports so you have plenty of places to charge your phone or any other device you may have. They also have Chromecast- which made it really nice and easy to watch Netflix. My boyfriend and I watched the movie Always Be My Maybe- which I'll have a review on on Thursday probably... but I do recommend it a lot.
The first day we kind of just hung out in the room for a bit and then we went out to eat. We kind of just walked around to see what restaurants looked and smelled good... and we decided to go to the buffet which was called Fresh Harvest... it was good... but I'm not sure it'd be the first thing I would recommend. The carving station part was probably the best part... they tasted really fresh. The chicken was really tender- the ribs fell off the bone... it was really really great. Not super terrible for a buffet either. There were a few asian options... the Fried Rice was alright- the Pepper Steak was actually really good and they had a good noodle dish too. The Pizza and pasta station didn't look very good... my Boyfriend had a slice of pizza and said it looked okay. They had some Prime Rib at the pizza station for some inexplicable reason... and it was fatty and kind of bad according to my boyfriend. The desserts weren't the best thing you could get there either... I love getting tons of desserts at buffets... but I'd recommend maybe getting a rice pudding or something and then going to Sugar Factory or on the boardwalk for dessert.
We went for a walk on the boardwalk right after too. We tried going to the Steel Pier Amusement Park... but it wasn't great. We tried to ask if we could go on the ferris wheel or how because apparently the Ferris Wheel didn't take tickets... but the girls that worked there ignored us. We just decided to keep walking on the boardwalk because we looked for Steel Fudge cause that's my mom's favorite... so we just kept walking on the boardwalk to look for that. Plus we planned on going to the Ripley's Museum- so we wanted to see where that was too. We did see where all of those were... and it was quite a walk! There were a few people that asked for money, a few people trying to sell us things and then we ran into a comedian asking us if we wanted to get tickets for a comedy show. I was kind of ignoring them and I was going to keep walking... but my Boyfriend was like "Let's get tickets to this!" Which was unexpected but what a great idea! We didn't have anything to do that night and the guy seemed super nice. Plus the tickets were a little cheaper because it was a Monday. And it was also great because the comedians were SUPER funny! Mike Merk hosted- his instagram is Mikewasfunny and Craig Fox (@craigfoxcomedy) and Zachary Pickett (icomic_zpick) were the comedians... and they did a really great job! We had a drink at the bar... and it was just really good and super funny. BTW the show was presented by acjokes.com- so if you wanted to go to one of these shows... check to see if that's the company doing it and buy your tickets then... cause they were really great and I'd totally go again! Also you can check out the website to find out details about upcoming shows if you wanted to know where to go and when the shows are.
After the show we still wanted to hang out a bit before going back to our room- so we went to Sugar Factory for a drink and some fries. This is basically an instagram restaurant- they have those over the top milkshakes and drinks and some really great looking food. They have an appetizer of sliders that are essentially Pretty Patties from spongebob where they're all colorful sliders. And it comes with a rubber duck... which you can buy in the gift shop.
We gambled a little bit after that... we didn't have much luck- so we went back to the room after that and watched some Umbrella Academy.
In the morning- we went back to Sugar for breakfast... which we had Milkshakes and Chicken and Waffles. I got one of the "regular" ones which is still kind of over the top... and my boyfriend got the Cookie Monster which was one of the over the top shakes... which came with a donut and a cupcake. It was really great. The Chicken and Waffles were good... the Fried Chicken was really great and the waffle was alright. We couldn't really finish it with the milkshakes... so we went back to the room for a bit and then went back to the boardwalk to go to the Ripley's Museum.
And the Ripley's Museum was really great! It's like $16 for a ticket and they have a $1.99 book that you can get with it... plus they had other books for like $12 or something for like really big books that would cost more at Barnes and Noble probably. We were pretty impressed. And the Believe it Or Not Museum had some gimmicky things mixed with some things about Ripley... which is kind of cool. It was a fun thing to do- took up a lot of time and it was just really great. Fun thing to do.
Then we went to Steel Fudge and we got some fudge for my parents, some Salted Caramels for us, some Molasses Candy for his sister, some disappointing shoestring licorice for us too... This is the second time I've been disappointed by the shoestring licorice- so I need to remember that next time.
We tried to go to the pool when we got back to the hotel... but it was closed right when we tried to get there... I'm guessing they just needed to clean it or something... but we didn't get to go there so we went back to the room- watched some Umbrella Academy, took a nap and then got ready for dinner at Youyu Noodle Bar.
Youyu Noodle Bar was fantastic! Best Pad Thai I ever had... great service. They were out of ice cream though... but still! It was great! The waitress we had was amazing too. Really liked her.
Then we gambled a little more, shopped at the Sugar Factory Gift Shop and then went back to our room to watch Always Be My Maybe, pack up and go to bed.
Then we headed back home the next day. We used Express Check Out- which was easy... and it was a lot of fun. We had a great time.
Overall it was a really fun trip and we had a fantastic time. If you're looking to go somewhere without planning that far out in advance... I definitely recommend just going somewhere in your own state or kind of close to your state and just kind of having a few things you DEFINITELY want to do and then go with the flow for the rest.
