Hey guys! So I just read this graphic Novel and it kind of inspired what I think I'm going to be talking about for most of the month... since it's back to school I thought I'd share a little bit of my school memories and those stories- I might review some more things that are school focused... I might talk a little about some school stories in my own life... I just thought maybe it could be fun and maybe it could help with back to school.
Okay so in this graphic novel it focuses on Raina's real life story about what happened with her teeth! One day she was at her friends house and she ran back in to get to her house and she knocked her two front teeth out! She was in 6th Grade and she had already known she had to get braces anyway so this just kind of made everything worse. She was in a lot of pain and she had a lot of issues with her teeth and her braces because of this.
It was just a fun way to tell the story of her going to middle school and growing up and she kind of told it through the stories about her teeth. That was really cool. She mentioned a group of friends that were kind of overly critical about her appearance and they teased her a lot more than she could handle. Plus she talked about boys she liked and why she thought boys didn't like her. She mentioned her insecurities, her favorite things... and things that happened around her. It was very real and I just thought it was sweet and very cool and just a good way of telling things.
This is a good story for any middle-schooler really. I thought that Ghost was maybe better suited for younger kids, this one is mostly about puberty and middle school- so I thought that would be great for middle schoolers in particular... and something I wish I had when I was in Middle School... or even high school.
And what I liked in Ghost is also present in this book... she talks a lot about California and it's really beautifully drawn and I love that part of it. I live in New Jersey and I've always like California and San Francisco and it's beautiful to see how it's drawn in here. I just really love it!
I think my favorite part of it is when she *Spoilers* "breaks up" with the friends that were teasing her. Even when friends are being mean to you- it's hard to kind of "break up" with them... especially when you are starting a new school and you don't really know anyone else. She was very strong when she stood up to the girls and that was when you really got to see "The Real Raina." So I liked that a lot.
Bye! Hope you guys are doing well if you're going back to school... and I hope you like this little bunch of blogs that I'll be posting this month!
