Movie Monday: Matilda

Okay... so I didn't watch this full movie- but I caught most of the parts I haven't seen in a while a few weeks ago... and it is hard to commit to watching a full feature length film every week... so Matilda is this week's movie monday!

So first off... I LOVE this movie. I've seen it 100 times as a kid- I still watch it fondly as an adult... it's one of those kind of magical nostalgic movies for me. And honestly I didn't know very much about the actual book Matilda until the musical came out a few years ago. I think I did know it was a book written by Roald Dahl... but I had sort of forgotten that and... this movie just does not feel like a Roald Dahl. I just reviewed Charlie and The Chocolate Factory recently... and i just watched the beginning of the orignal Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory and these are VERY different feels than Matilda... and I kind of really love that about this Matilda adaptation.

I've never read the book or seen the musical so... I don't really know that it's necessarily all that different but... I'm pretty sure Matilda is supposed to take place in England and this movie adaptation just seems very very American. I've been to England before but I've never lived there- but... The Wormwoods seem like a very american family. The dad is a sleazy used car salesman and the mom plays Bingo all day... that just seems very New Jersey to me... and I feel like Danny Devito- who is a Jersey legend did a fantastic job making this beloved classic his own.

I saw up until Matilda first went to school more or less... and I feel like... this was just a nicely paced movie. The School world is different from Matilda's home world... but it makes sense that the two parallel so well. Matilda doesn't really feel at home when she's home because she doesn't belong with the Wormwoods... and it seems like she feels more at home at School with Miss Honey... but the school is also really scary because of Trunchbull... and idk they just do a good job of showing how awful it is but also showing that Matilda has so much joy from being at school.

It's also always weird to me that Danny Devito directed this movie... and he cast himself and his wife as the villains... and he also narrates the story and he does a great job of it. It's all a little odd but it works together so well and I don't think I can imagine it any other way... it all just works so well and makes for such a fun movie.

Bye!

Weekly Wrap Up 7.30.17

Sunday 7.23.17  Sunday was a really good day… it was kind of a lazy day for me… but my dad pretty much finished most of the painting in my room… he ran out of paint before he could totally finish it up… so he’ll finish that up soon… my mom is going to the paint store tomorrow… so hopefully he can finish it up then.  He also made some really fantastic barbecue pork… it was going to be pulled pork… but the pulling process didn’t really work… I kind of prefer the texture of it sliced instead of pulled…. idk. I like pulled pork… but this sliced pork was really delicious and flavorful and good.  We went for Starbucks and Ice Cream too… which was fun. Starbucks sends a lot of bonus stars offers after 2… so even though we go in the morning- we have to go after 2 because then we’ll get bonus stars, which my dad uses in New York because it’s a little more expensive there.  And then the ice cream… nutella ice cream with crushed oreos and marshmallow…it was del...

Throwback Thursday: The Incredibles

This is one of the more underrated movies in the Pixar Universe... thatI think is actually getting more popular now than it was back when it was released... so that's good. I think it really stands the test of time... but it still isn't one of my favorites. This movie I think is pretty cool because it was the first time Pixar really used humans. When I was little I thought "Toys, Bugs, Monsters, Fish... the next movie will be about dogs!" And I was surprised it was this! I didn't know Pixar could do that! But I guess technically its about heroes and not humans... but then Pixar began to show more humans in their world and The Pixar Theory was started... and yeah. I just kind of want to state my opinion on the Pixar Theory here too cause why not: I don't believe that Pixar set out to create this elaborate world with all the movies connected... but I do still believe it exists in some way shape of form. It all adds up and checks out... so for me... somehow t...

Rereading My Favorite Thing I Wrote In College

Hey guys! I'd say "today's post is a little different" but they're all kind of different to begin with... so this might end up being the same- or at least something that can fit into this blog in a nice way. So I don't want to post the actual thing that I wrote... but in my college Creative Writing Class that I took at 21 we needed to write a fantastical realism short story. And I wrote something that I always liked. The lead character was a smart and sassy woman... the fantastical elements were exciting and unique... and the story as a whole had a cute ending and a good message... and I really liked the way that I took what happened in my real life and changed it into this amazing and fantastical thing. Re-reading it... it was still pretty good. I actually liked the ending a little bit better because it had a nice message about believing in yourself that I kind of just snuck in there without much thought... and there was a cute little love story. I liked ...
